I have discussed this issue and the plights of many refuseniks. on numerous occassions with members of the Jewish Federation of North Jersey. the Greater New York Conference on Soviet Jewry. the Student Coalition for Soviet Jewry. United Jewish Community of Bergen County. and participants in the National Young Leadership Conference for United Jewish Appeal. to name just a few. In addition to these organized efforts. I have heard from many individual constituents of the Fifth District who care deeply about human rights. I believe we must join together and call upon the Soviet Government to abide by international human rights agreements which recognize freedom of religion. repatriation to ones homeland. reunification of families and the right to emigrate. Truly. these are rights worth speaking out for.*
