Mr. Speaker. the Soviet Government refuses to allow Jews to emigrate and singles them out for special punishment because of their religious beliefs. In this connection. I would like to call your attention to the case of one such individual. His name is Grigory Gieshas. Grigory is a young man. only 24 years old. Prior to his arrest in July 1980 he had studied mathematics in Leningrad and had requested to emigrate from the Soviet Union in the fall of 1978. His request was denied. As a result of his request. however.
