Ellis Island hosted more than 70 percent of the 24 million immigrants entering the United States. The tie between the Statue of Liberty and the immigration to our shores in search of freedom was immortalized by Emma Lazarus in her sonnet "the New Colossus." I am sure we are all familiar with the final lines: Give me your tired. your poor. Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
