Mr. President. today I am introducing a resolution to designate September 16. 1984. as "Ethnic American Day." The designation of this day is intended to recognize the valuable contributions ethnic Americans have made to American life. Throughout the long and distinguished history of our country. we have been shaped by the millions of immigrants who have reached our shores. They chose the United States of America. They chose to live in this land of freedom and opportunity. The United States today has a population with more than 100 ancestry groups. Their distinct heritages and cultures have all been important in the development of American society.
