Since its inception in 1929. LULAC has assisted Hispanic Americans by working to improve their economic and social opportunities as well as their educational opportunities. Because LULAC has been very active in the field of immigration and refugee matters. we frequently sought the views of LULAC in matters which come before my Subcommittee on Immigration and Refugees. I have always found their testimony to be interesting and useful. I freely confess not always to have agreed with it. nor to have acted on it in the way they would wish. but then that is what the legislative process is all about: It assumes goodfaith differences which have to be settled in goodfaith negotiation.
