Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980157611

In June 1941. 60.000 Estonians. 5 percent of the total population. were either killed or sent to Soviet concentration camps. From that time onward to 1949. over 350.000 lives were lost. Many died in the Soviets camps. many more died trying to defend their homeland. In 1949. 80.000 farmers looked on helplessly while their land was taken from them and turned into state farms. many were then deported to Siberia. Today. countless more have been victimized and violated by the ruling elite of the Soviet Union. However. the Soviet Union will never be able to totally obliterate the strong national pride and traditions that persist in the people of Estonia.
