Of these. more than 400.000 have begun the tenuous and dangerous process of applying for exit visas. Those daring to apply for visas are subject to KGB harassment that includes physical intimidation. dismissal from jobs. and threats of imprisonment. Virtually all Jews are discriminated against in the Soviet Union. One is not permitted to learn Hebrew or to teach classes on religion.
