UkrainianAmericans dreamed of establishing the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the United States. Efforts to establish the church in America began among the residents of Shenandoah. Pa. Primarily hardcoal miners. they had immigrated from the mountainous region of Lemkiwschynaw in western Ukraine. They sent a now famous letter in 1884 to Cardinal Sylvester Sembratovich.
