Mr. President. on November 17 the Senate passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 55. a resolution on behalf of Ethiopian Jewry. The resolution expresses the concerns of the U.S. Senate for Ethiopian Jews. many of whom face simultaneously the tragic problems of disease. malnutrition. and difficulty in emigrating to Israel. I was pleased to be a sponsor of the resolution. Currently about 4V million Ethiopians may be endangered by a drought which has affected much of northern Africa. The Falashasthe Ethiopian Jewsface this danger as well. They are truly caught in a web of unfortunate circumstances. Therefore. public attention should be focused on their plight.
