Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980140212

Mr. Speaker. I rise to address the Speakers decision to block further consideration of the immigration bill. H.R. 1510. One of the reasons the Speaker gave in reaching his decision was that there was no constituency for immigration reform. Mr. Speaker. I do not know where you spend your time when you are not up there in the chair. but I have got news for you. there is an overwhelming constituency out there clamoring for immigration reform. One of those organizations which has been consistently forceful in its support has been the American Legion. With almost 3 /2 million members. the Legion has faced this issue squarely for several years.
