Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980140206

Although it did not pass Congress must continue to develop bettermore comprehensive lawsto address the economic concerns of American women. That is why I introduced the Womens Economic Parity Act in July. This legislation changes pension and tax laws to assure women more equitable treatment and coverage under their retirement plans. It acknowledges the economic contributions of homemakersand of women with extensive community volunteer activities. Since specific legislation still is needed to address discrimination against women in this NationI urge my colleagues to cosponsor H.R. 3554. I also support the discharge petition on the reform of the Immigration and Naturalization Act. Let us bring the SimpsonMazzoli bill to the floor for full debate.
