The level of funding provided in this amendment would simply allow us to continue the community services block grant at about the same level of service provided last year. It is about $200 million short of what would be needed to restore service to even the 1981 levels. It simply allows us to maintain at this years level the community economic development program. programs to address rural poverty. the national summer youth sports program. programs for the elderly poor. programs to assist the families of migrant and seasonal farmworkers. and other State and local community initiatives. This may be the only opportunity we have to give this program the funding it needs. I urge you to support this program and the WrightPerkins amendment.
