Mr. Speaker. I recently had a visit from a Guatemalan nun who resides in southern Mexico. She is part of a group of religious persons who assist in the resettlement of refugees from Guatemala. She reports that the number of persons leaving Guatemala has increased following the recent coup. and the ascension to power of Gen. Mejia Victores. There are also widespread reports of a wave of disappearances from around the country. I am attaching for the record a partial list of those disappearances. compiled from published reports in the Guatemalan press and consisting of individuals who have disappeared since the coup.
