Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980117995

So this resolution supports very explicitly the efforts of the ASEAN countries to bring about the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Cambodia. It calls for an internationally supervised act of selfdetermination by the United Nations so that the people of Cambodia at long last will be able to determine peacefully and politically their own future. And it also calls for us to provide whatever humanitarian relief we can to the long suffering people of that country. and particularly the Cambodian refugees. And also to give humanitarian and political support to the nonCommunist Khmer nationalist forces that represent the legitimate aspirations of the Cambodian people. I think that our majority leader really deserves the gratitude of not only all the Members of this House. but all freedom loving people in our own country and around the world for taking the intitiative in this regard.
