Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980109056

Mr. Speaker. In March of this year. the Attorney General reiterated the administrations support for a bipartisan immigration reform proposal when he declared: Discussing the need for immigration reform of this committee is a little like describing another kind of flood to Noah. During the 97th Congress this subcommittee made a tremendous stride toward that goal. The Administration appreciates your commitment to this difficult task and prompt introduction in the 98th Congress of H.R. 1510. the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1983. Mr. Speaker. even to the most skeptical observer of our political lexicon it is difficult to surmise from the Attorney Generals remarks in both the last and present Congress that the administration has been determined to veto immigration reform legislation. Mr. Speaker.
