Mr. Speaker. on October 18 the House Committee on Rules will consider the SlmpsonMazzoli bill. That committee must grant an open rule and permit all amendments including those proposed by the administration. In their letter of July 27 the administration revealed for the first time that SimpsonMazzoli will cost for the first year alone. $1.576 million and not $200 million as authorized by the bill. This amount will increase to $11.530 million by 1988 and does not include the cost of reimbursement to the States. enforcement of sanctions nor the reduction of immigration backlog. Mr. Speaker. enough is enough. The Nation cannot afford the tremendous expense of the SimpsonMazzoli bill.
