As he has already pointed out. the House Committee on Foreign Affairs has already adopted language expressing the sense of the Congress that extended voluntary departure satus be granted to those Salvadorans now resident in this country. I hope that we will follow the lead of the Senator from Arizona and make our bill conform to that of the House. The real issue here is not immigration policy. instead. it concerns the events now going on in El Salvador and throughout Central America. The unfortunate fact is that in a region torn by civil war. many people must fear for their lives if they should return home. Our own Government has recognized that various individuals might become targets of the insurgents.
