Mr. Speaker. it is my understanding that the Committee on the Judiciary has asked for a rule on the SimpsonMazzoli immigration bill. This means that this infamous piece of legislation. already passed by the other body. will once again be considered by the House of Representatives. SimpsonMazzoli was considered last year under an open rule subject to amendment at any point. and it should likewise be considered under an open rule this year. Enough time must be given for debate. not only to members of the committee but to those of us. not in the committee who oppose this legislation because of its adverse effect on the people of America.
