Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970231842

I rise to point out to my colleagues the plight of Boris and Gedi Kun. Soviet Jews who have been repressed by the totalitarian regime under which they are forced to live. Gedis parents and three sisters emigrated to Israel in 1973. At that time. Boris was employed as an aircraft engineer. He resigned from this position when he and Gedi applied for an exit visa to Israel. in order to avoid denial based on his secret work. Upon receipt of their initial denial in 1974. Boris and Gedi were unable to obtain employment for 6 months. They have submitted numerous applications to emigrate from the Soviet Union and have been refused on each occasion. Repression of Jews in the Soviet Union continues. 7 years after the completion of the Helsinki accords. And I feel we would be remiss in our duties were we to fail to bring this situation to the attention of the international community.o
