Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970231202

Because of this security clearance. Yakov agreed to sign a document stating he would be unable to go abroad for 5 years. Six years later when he applied for permission to emigrate. however. Yakov was refused on the basis of his army service. His application was turned down again 6 months later. Yakovs wife. Tatiana. lost her job when it was learned that she and her husband had applied for emigration visas. It is my hope that through our efforts here in Congress and through concern shown by communities across the Nation. the Kogans and other Soviet Jews will finally be given permission to leave the Soviet Union.o
