Senator SimPSON has shown extraordinary understanding and sympathy for the problems facing Florida. I believe that he is committed to addressing many of those problems before the end of this session of Congress. I have received assurances from my friend from Wyoming that the amendment that I had intended to offer will now be considered when the Senate Immigration Subcommittee holds hearings and markup on the reauthorization of the Refugee Act of 1980. I have spoken with the distinguished chairman of the House Subcommittee on Immigration. Refugees and International Law. RON MAZZOLI. He indicated that though the issue raised by my amendment was not included in the reauthorization of the Refugee Act of 1980. as recently passed by the House. he is sympathetic to its consideration on the bill. I express my gratitude to Chairman MAZZOLI and also my colleague from Florida. Congressman BxLL McCoLLUx. with whom I have been working closely on this issue. Both of these men have dedicated themselves to the critical need to reform our immigration laws. I was particulary impressed to find Chairman MAzzoij spending much of the day yesterday on the floor of the Senate. There could.
