He put ads in newspapers. trying to get 700 workers. He did not get them. He got less than 60. As I recall. of those 60. 50 were illegal aliens. and the 10 who were not resigned after the second day. Meanwhile. there were 25.000 people in that county on food stamps and on welfare. Confronted with the alternative of being on welfare or working in the hot sun gathering crops. doing heavy physical labor. they decided to stay on welfare.
