Mr. President. part A of title 1 of S. 2222. as reported from the Committee on the Judiciary. establishes Federal criminal sanctions for employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens. The employer. under this process. must verify he has examined documents which establish both (a) eligibility to work. and (b) identity showing that the individual presenting proof of eligibility is not presenting false identification. A valid U.S. passport would establish both. Otherwise one document in each of the following categories would be presented: (a) Social security card or birth certificate. and (b) INSissued "adit" card. drivers license. other Stateissued card. or other documents approved by the Attorney General.
