Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970223583

What has been occurring. of course. is originally it was meant to keep migrant workers from moving into the industrial areas and taking away jobs from the big cities. In this day and age we find just the opposite. where the people from the larger communities are moving in taking over the public construction jobs in our small rural areas. because of the fact that small contractors cannot meet the prevailing wage standards as interpreted by the Department of Labor which have a strong union bias. and therefore they just operate out of the bidding process. This is very discriminatory against small business. And we hear a lot in this Chamber again. rhetoric about helping small business. Well. this is an opportunity once again to put ones voting card in the slot and vote.
