Speech #970201976

Mr. Speaker. I am pleased to Join with my colleagues today in support of Ida Nudel. who for 11 years has sought to emigrate from the Soviet Union and live in Israel. She has suffered greatly for her desire to live in freedom. in the country of her choice. Ida Nudel is one of dozens of Soviet Jews who have faced harassment. prosecution and harsh prison sentences because of her unfaltering desire to emigrate from the Soviet Union. She first applied for exit permission in May 1971 and was repeatedly refused. At that time. she began her efforts to care for and support Jewish prisoners who had been jailed for their beliefs.
