Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970201946

Speaker. today I call on the Soviet authorities to heed public opinion in this country which demands the release of Ida Nudel. Her release will send a signal to the people of the United States that the Soviet Union is truly interested in seeking an improvement in relations between our nations. Further. the time has come for President Reagan to reaffirm the American commitment to securing the right to emigrate for Ida Nudel and the thousands of other Jewish refuseniks who have been refused exit visas by the Soviet Government. Those of us in the Congress who are committed to Soviet Jewry mark this as an important day. because our commitment to this woman and to Soviet Jewry is unyielding. We will continue to fight for Ida Nudels right to emigrate so she can live her life in freedom in Israel.
