Mr. Speaker. this is a bipartisan resolution which can be supported by our colleagues from both sides of the aisle. The recommendations in this resolution are directed toward expediting a peaceful settlement to the 8year dispute in Cyprus by calling on the President to appoint a personal representative to seek a solution to this conflict which has left approximately 200.000 Cypriots as refugees in their own homeland since 1974. By achieving an equitable settlement to the Cyprus conflict entailing the total withdrawal of all Turkish troops from this wartorn. island nation. American security interests within NATO would be considerably strengthened and our influence with our European allies greatly enhanced.
