Mr. Speaker. the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1982. H.R. 6514. which was unanimously reported from my Subcommittee on Immigration. Refugees. and International Law on May 19. has as one of its major aims stopping illegal immigration. The bill. however. also reforms substantially our legal immigration policy. One of its major provisions provides immigration benefits for the Amerasian childrenthose half American. half Asian children fathered by American servicemen in Vietnam. Korea. Loas. Cambodia. and Thailand. The language in H.R. 6514 is very similar to that in H.R. 808. The Amerasian bill authored by the gentleman from Connecticut. Congressman STEWART McKiNrWEY.
