I served as chairman and now as ranking member of the StateJusticeCommerce Subcommittee on Appropriations. so we have the FBI. the Immigration. the DEA budgets on the Appropriations Subcommittee there. When President Reagan came back from New Orleans. to our dismay. he proposed cuts in the law enforcement agencies. and we lost many agents. I know as of last year. we had 1.000 fewer FBI agents at the end of 1981 than we had at the end of 1971with an increased population. and increased incidence of crime. with a greater job to do.
