Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970189893

Many thousands of Lebanese have been killed and injuredand hundreds of thousands have been displaced. Homes and businesses are destroyed. There is a critical need for emergency relief and humanitarian assistance. and the United States and all other concerned countries should act immediately to provide it. We must lend our strong support to the work of organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross. the U.N. High Commission for Refugees. and other U.N. agencies in undertaking programs to provide immediate relief and to implement longrange programs for the economic recovery of Lebanon. In closing I would like to emphasize again the critical opportunity before us. For 7 years.
