Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970188270

Mr. Speaker. it is with great solemnity and deep respect that I join my distinguished colleagues in commemorating the 42d anniversary of Genocide Day. This forced deportation of hundreds of thousands of persons in the Baltic nations of Lithuania. Latvia. and Estonia occurred on Mr. Speaker. not only were these innocent people forced into labor camps during this deportation. but thousands were brutally executed by the Soviets who were retreating from the invading armies of Hitlers Third Reich. June 16. 1940 was indeed one of the darkest days in the history of civilized man. Rarely has the world been witness to such terrible acts of inhumanity..
