Haig. has devoted full time to the crisis. My purpose today is not. however. to discuss what is happening in the Falklands but to remind the House and the Secretary of State about the 1974 invasion of a much larger and much more important island nation in the Mediterranean. I refer. of course. to the invasion of Cyprus by Turkey. That 1974 invasion divided the island. produced 200.000 refugees. and wrecked the small nations economy. Its cruel effects continue to this moment. Years have gone by and no progress has been made in restoring the island to its previous situation through negotiations between the States affected.
