And I am outraged at the hypocrisy that lies behind the administrations policy of notsobenign neglect of these conditions as they attempt to strengthen U.S. relations with Turkey through increased military and economic assistance. The Reagan administration is asking the U.S. Congress to increase military and economic aid to the military regime in Turkey to well over $800 millions for fiscal 1983. while it is denying the needy Cypriot refugees even the small and minimal sum of $15 million with which to enable the Government of Cyprus to heal the wounds caused by American arms in the hands of the Turk invaders and illegal colonizers in northern Cyprus. We must ask ourselves some compelling questions. What interests can we possibly be promoting when we open the floodgates of military aid to Turkeythe invading countryand simultaneously shut off humanitarian aid to the invaded country?
