Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970157341

Greece. In times of dire need. the country of Greece is one of the first of our allies to come to our side. They deserve no less from the United States. The Greek Cypriots wish to live in peace. however. the practicality of such a development must include the removal of Turkish troops from Cyprus. This country is one of the few places in the world where most of its inhabitants are refugees in their own homeland. As long as this dilemma persists. the people of Cyprus are denied full selfdetermination. Through this special order. I join my colleagues in reaffirming our commitment to the Greek community and in sending a clear message to Turkey that the Congress and the entire country supports the removal of Turkish troops from Cypriot soil.e
