Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970150989

Speaker. last week many of our colleagues in the Congress participated in ceremonies and festivities honoring all Americans of Irish extraction and the people of both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. on the occasion of St. Patricks Day. I was proud to associate myself with this important tradition and holiday that has become a true part of American life with the arrival of the first Irish immigrants to America. The history of the Irish people is a mixture of wonderful folklore. music. and dance. which has been tempered by political. social. and economic upheavals. Irelands sons and daughters have made enormous contributions to our Nation. including many prominent Members of Congress and several Presidents of the United States.
