The resolution was amended during consideration by the Subcommittee on Human Rights and International Organizations to reflect new developments in their case. including the recent hunger strike and hospitalization of two family members. These developments involving the Pentecostal families in the U.S.S.R. have made this expression of congressional concern in their behalf particularly important. It is my understanding that the Soviet authorities have not made much progress in processing the visa application of Lidia Vashchenko. who left the embassy and returned to her home to again attempt to initiate emigration proceedings. I believe that our action in Congress today will provide a needed signal that we have not forgotten the Pentecostal families. and continue to have the greatest interest in their case. House Concurrent Resolution 100 has 123 cosponsors from both political parties. and has been the object of great interest in church groups and human rights organizations across the country.
