Mrs. Shcharansky saw Anatoly in January. and her statements are most disheartening for those of us who share her concern for her son. Anatoly Shcharansky has now served 5 years of his 13year prison sentence. He is obviously continuing to be mistreated by prison authorities for his brave leadership in the Soviet Jewish emigration movement and his persistence in clinging to his religious beliefs. I Join my colleagues and all Americans concerned about human rights in urging Soviet President Brezhnev to grant Anatoly Shcharansky his freedom. There is only so much more suffering that he will be able to endure.
