The Lithuanians are an industrious and proud people and at long last they began enjoying the rewards of their own efforts and the feeling of security that comes from having the right of selfdetermination and having a democratic form of government. However. these benefits were shortlived. for with the advent of World War II. Lithuania was invaded by Stalins red army and the courageous Lithuanians were once again robbed of their hardwon freedom. Those who resisted were tragically executed. or were deported under inhuman conditions to slave labor camps in Siberia.
