Mr. Speaker. 3 years ago. several families of the Pentecostal faith sought refuge in the American Embassy in Moscow to escape religious persecution. During this time. the families have lived in a oneroom apartment in the basement of the American Embassy. They are unable to emigrate. They are unable to leave the compound. They are prisoners in their own country because of their religious beliefs. One month ago. two of the women living in the American Embassy went on a hunger strike calling attention to their plight. This past weekend. one of the women was hospitalized because American officials feared for her life.
