Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970132271

PolishAmericans are worried. They are restless. They are angry. While there may be all too little we can do directly to help the Polish freedom fighters. we must begin to take steps that might be of some help in the months ahead. To the extent that immigration laws can be made more flexible. to permit political refugees to enter America. it must be done. To the extent that diplomatic channels can be used to convince Austria and other nations to absorb more fleeing Poles. that must be done as well. And we must clarify our countrys position on aid. especially food aid.
