There are no current grading areas on the Paddy Creek area and no proven mineral reserves. The Forest Service estimates no loss of manyears for the Houston multicounty planning unit if Paddy Creek is designated wilderness. Congress should act now to add Paddy Creek to the National Wilderness Preservation System. Irish Wilderness has been called the crown Jewel of the Missouri wilderness area. Named for an illfated settlement of Irish immigrants prior to the Civil War. the area was the first to be proposed for wilderness. It contains more track of pristine hollows. ridges. and bluffs than anywhere in the State. It is the home to many wildlife.
