"Tommy the Cork." as he was called by President Roosevelt. was born in Pawtucket. R.I.. on December 29. 1900. His father. Patrick. was an Irish immigrant. a leading lawyer. and Democratic politician. Mr. Corcoran earned both his bachelors and masters degrees at Brown University. where he was valedictorian and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
