Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970114065

I thank the gentleman for yielding. Mr. Speaker. notwithstanding the fact that I am not from Philadelphia. I would like to associate myself with the remarks of my dear colleagues who have so adequately and so articulately expressed the sense of outrage and disgust that we feel toward the Soviet Union for keeping people who want to emigrate. who want to leave the country. Freedom to do so is one of the hallmarks of a free society and. I might say. a civilized society. One wonders what they have to fear. One wonders why they do not want people to leave the country.
