Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970111157

D.C. DEAR MR. FAIRBANKS: I am writing to inquire about the State Departments denial of Owen Carrons application for a visitor visa. Mr. Carron. who is a member of the British Parliament. was recently denied a visa for visiting the United States. I am interested in knowing the State Departments reasons for denying Mr. Carrons application. He is not a member of a proscribed organization and he was scheduled to address several wellrespected IrishAmerican groups as well as to meet with local Massachusetts public officials and Members of the U.S. Congress. Who makes the final decision to award to deny an application for a visitor visa to the United States? Who made the final decision in Mr. Carrons case?
