President. I am concerned about a crisis which all of Florida is facing. The crisis I am referring to is overcrowded. unsanitary conditions at the immigration and naturalization detention facility called Krome North. The amendment which my colleague and I are offering would relieve this crisis by effectively placing a cap on the number of persons who can be held at Krome. Krome North is an old Army post located on the outskirts of Miami. and it has been pressed into service as a processing center and holding facility for immigrants who land on south Floridas shores. The official capacity of Krome. based on an allowance of 50squarefeet perperson. is 525 people. Yet the daytoday population of Krome far exceeds this stated capacity.
