Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970054806

The type of military assistance which will be rendered under this sectgion consists of the operation and maintenance of sophisticated equipment in circumstances where it would not be practical or feasible to train civilians. The types of laws which can justify the requests for military assistance are Federal statutes which frequently involve the movement of vessels or aircraft into or out of the United States. Three separate types of offenses are listed: Drug laws. immigration laws. and customsrelated statutes. The first two sets of statutes are included by reference to the criminal statutes which would form the basis of the investigation and possible criminal charge. The third category. that is customs related laws. is described generically.
