Inna. studied mathematics at the Moscow State University. but has never been allowed to work in her field because of her desire to live in Israel. As one of the early leaders of the Soviet Jewry movement. Yuli Kosharovsky. continues to speak out for freedom of emigration. The KGB has threatened and harassed him. He has been arrested several times since early 1970. on charges of hooliganism and disturbing the public order. In the summer of 1975. he began a seminar for unemployed engineers (unemployed because of their desire to emigrate to Israel.) He has been threatened many times by the Soviet police and told that he should discontinue these seminars. but he has not done so. In an incredible act of bravery. he was one of 250 Soviet Jews who signed the following appeal directed to the Knesset and all Jewish communities throughout the world. We appeal to you at one of the most dramatic moments. perhaps one of the major turning points in the history of the Jews in Russia.
