June 15 is remembered with disgust and condemnation. for it was on this day. 41 years ago. that the nation of Lithuania was forcibly occupied by the Soviet Union. Yet. the memory of this day is also a source of great inspiration. Since 1940. tens of thousands of Lithuanians have been killed or deported for their belief in the inalienable rights of men. yet. the Lithuanian people endure. their beliefs persevere. Though this nation has been bound by the shackles of Soviet oppression for more than four decades. the memories of a free and democratic Lithuania live on in the hearts and minds of Lithuanians all over the world. It is in these memories that this brave people finds the courage to believe that over its Communist adversary. the nation of Lithuania shall yet prevail.
