Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970039446

Speaker. today I have introduced a private bill to aid one of my constituents in bringing her adopted daughter to this country. During the 96th Congress. this bill. H.R. 6527. was referred to the Judiciary Committees Subcommittee on Immigration. Refugees. and International Law. The subcommittee failed to act on the measure and I am prepared once again to attempt to remove certain barriers which prevent the reestablishment of the Willis family unit. The case in question is clearcut. and essentially one which deserves the compassion and insight which the Congress can provide in such instances. Mrs. Rita Willis was born in Jamaica and immigrated to the United States in 1970. She is a permanent resident and has resided in Baltimore with her husband. Laurie Charles Willis. since that time.
