Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970039309

These are but a few of the numerous testaments we could make to the indomitable spirit of the Baltic peoplesa spirit which has survived unceasing Soviet attempts to break it. As a Member of Congress and as Chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe. I stand resolved. together with our colleagues in the Congress. every year to mark the infamous June anniversaries of the forced annexations and mass deportations. to monitor the arrests and trial of Baltic activists and to speak out against continuing Soviet efforts to suppress the national. political. cultural. religious and linguistic rights of Estonians. Latvians. and Lithuanians. We will do so for as long as it takes to see Estonia.
